Job Announcement: Hazardous Materials Emergency Planner

Position: Hazardous Materials Emergency Planner
Pay Rate: $25/hour
Hours: Part-time (10 – 20 hours per week)
Funding: Grant-funded position through September 30, 2025 (extension dependent on grant renewal)

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Hazardous Materials Emergency Planner to support our efforts in preventing and responding to hazardous materials transportation incidents on roadways and railways. This position focuses on planning, preparedness, and coordination to enhance public safety and emergency response capabilities. The successful candidate will work with local, state, and federal agencies to develop hazardous materials response plans, conduct risk assessments, and support emergency preparedness initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain hazardous materials transportation accident prevention and response plans
  • Coordinate with emergency responders, public health officials, and transportation agencies
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify critical transportation routes for hazardous materials
  • Assist in planning and executing hazardous materials emergency drills and exercises
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate public information regarding hazardous materials risks and preventative measures
  • Maintain accurate records and filing systems for planning and regulatory compliance
  • Research and suggest best practices for hazardous materials transportation safety
  • Provide technical assistance and training related to hazardous materials emergency response
  • Coordinate with and conduct LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) meetings
  • File quarterly grant reports with the State

Qualifications:

  • Strong computer, writing, and communication skills
  • Experience in office administration and document management
  • Background in first responder services, public health, or emergency management
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials transportation regulations is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional setting
  • Public Information Officer related training or experience a plus.
