Groundbreaking ceremony held for Airport runway extension


On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Airport Commission of Effingham County hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the runway extension project.  The ceremony was opened with Joshua Douthit, Effingham County Board Chairman and member of the Airport Commission introducing and congratulating all who have worked so hard to see the project to fruition.  Joshua Douthit also took a moment to introduce and thank many local and state representatives for attending.

Tony Siemer, Airport Commission Chairman, spoke to the many years of project development and funding initiatives as well as Airport achievements including being named a Regional Airport.

Greg Koester, Effingham County Engineer and Airport Superintendent wrapped up speaking to the importance of the Airport to Effingham and surrounding communities.
