Community Development Block Grant funding paid out to local businesses


Prior to the County Board meeting on Monday, August 19, 2024, a public hearing was hosted to share the Community Development Block Grant Project Performance.  Executive Director of the South Central Illinois Regional Planning & Development Commission (SCIRPDC), Luke Eastin, presented.

In the Fall of 2023, the Effingham County Board approved submission of a Business Resilience grant under the provisions of the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) administered by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) which was being applied to reimburse eligible local businesses for expenses related to the Coronavirus Pandemic.  In June of 2024, Effingham County was awarded $101,725.00 in grant funding through this submission.

Mr. Eastin stated the CDBG grant funding was used to reimburse eight(8) local businesses for expenses incurrect in the prevention, preparation and response to the Coronavirus Pandemic.  Of the total $101,725.00 in CDBG funds received from DCEO, the following was awarded:

J&J Ventures Gaming, LLC received $20,000.00.

Niemergs, Inc. received $20,000.00.

Tuscan Hills Winery, LLC received $16,405.00.

Stevens Industries, Inc. received $12,694.00.

Gopher’s Grill, Inc. received $9,475.00.

Jansen Educational Services, LLC received $5,339.00.

Jedco Sales, Inc. received $4,949.00.

Debenham Hospitality Group, Inc. received $3,606.00.

SCIRPDC received $9,247.00 for Activity Delivery.
